In the 3 years that KSHSAA has sponsored the 4321A Girls State Wrestling tournament it has been won by 3 different teams. Baldwin, Pratt and Chanute have each won a team state title. It is also the only division that the top returning state team point returner did not place in the top 3. This division is just so new and in its infancy that no team or teams have yet to establish dominance yet, but that could all be changing. The top 3 point returners this year have all been there or close to “there” before. The Rossville Bulldogs were runner-ups last year and return the most points, followed by the defending state champions, Chanute Blue Comets and in 3rd is previous state champions, Pratt. This could be the year that a school starts to claim dominance in 4321A girls wrestling!
Here are the top 10 teams returning the most team points in the girls 4321A classification

#1 Rossville Bulldogs – 70 returning state team points
The defending State Runner-up, Rossville Bulldogs return the most team points from a year ago. Coach Weil and company only return 3 girls from last year’s team but what a 3 they are! The Bulldogs return a State Champion, and a runner-up and a 3rd place finisher. 88 points won the title last year, if Rossville has some good young talent to help add to the team points, they have a great shot.

#2 Chanute Blue Comets – 59 returning state team points
The defending state champions, the Chanute Blue Comets, return the 2nd most team points. They as well only return 3 girls from their state team a year ago and all 3 are returning state placers. Unlike Rossville though, the Blue Comets have a little more room to grow and they are going to need that if they want to return as the top team. They will also need some newcomers to help these 3 veterans to be the 1st team to repeat as champions.

#3 Pratt Greenbacks – 50 returning state team points
If there is a team that has established some dominance here it is the Pratt Greenbacks. In the 4 years that KSHSAA has sponsored a girls state championship (the 1st year was all-classifications) the Greenbacks have never finished below 4th place. They return 4 state qualifiers from a year ago and all of them can score more points than they did last year. With some newcomers in the line up they could be the 1st team to repeat as champions.

#4 Smoky Valley Vikings – 43 returning state team points
The Smoky Valley Vikings come in 4th on returning team points with 43 points. They return 5 state qualifiers including a state champion which will give them a big boost in the team race. The Vikings can score a lot more points if those qualifiers and the 6th placer can improve this season. If they can throw in a couple of newcomers, the Smoky Valley Vikings could be pushing for a team trophy in 2024.

#5 Santa Fe Trail Chargers – 41 returning state team points
The Santa Fe Trail Chargers round out the top 5 point returners with 41 points. With the most state returners in the top 5, the Chargers do not plan to stay at number 5. Santa Fe Trail returns 6 state returners from a year ago. Each and every one of those returners have the opportunity to help her team score by placing higher than she did a year ago. If that happens, the Chargers should contend for a state trophy.
